I'm Basil Khabass, founder of JollyBoo. It started with a gift. A close friend had just had a baby, and I went looking for an infant lounger to bring to the hospital, something I thought would be easy to find. Instead, I was surprised by how poorly made everything felt: flimsy, uncomfortable, and not the kind of thing a parent would want their newborn resting in.
I've always cared deeply about babies, and I couldn't shake the feeling that they deserved better. So I decided to make it myself, sketching my very first lounger with pen and paper at my kitchen table.
That drawing became JollyBoo. Let's go back to where it all began, because you're an important part of this journey.
It Started With a Question
We began in Montreal. I'm the middle child, which meant I was always the one thinking about gifts. Friends were getting married, others were having babies, and I kept looking for something that actually mattered, something a parent would reach for every single day. So I asked my mom: what did you need when I was a baby? She replied, I simply needed someone to come in and HOLD a baby for me. Nothing else. Just hold them. That stuck with me. The idea of a baby lounger that could be moved around the house and imitated the feeling of arms came to mind. I could make that. And so I did.
The First Loungers.
I made three little loungers to start, stitched together with more hope than experience. I gifted two of them to close friends who had just had newborns, and then I waited. The feedback came back better than I could have imagined. They told me their babies loved it, that they finally had a free moment, that it was unlike anything they'd tried. That was the moment I knew I had something real. So I took the leap and launched, producing a first run of a thousand loungers. I honestly didn't know what to expect. What happened next surprised me: we sold out in just two months. That was when it stopped being an idea and became JollyBoo. I had a clear vision and purpose, and I could not be stopped.
Built Different.
We didn't want to make just another lounger. We wanted to make the best one. So we obsessed over the details most brands skip. We chose rayon made from bamboo for its incredible softness and breathability, and we shaped every curve to cradle your baby with a gentle, ergonomic feel, like the comfort of being held close. Months of research and refinement went into a single lounger. Because for us, "good enough" was never the goal.
Always Growing
We began with a single lounger, but JollyBoo was always meant to be more. What started as one idea at a kitchen table has grown into something bigger: a promise to keep showing up for parents through every stage of this beautiful, exhausting, unforgettable journey.
So we're growing. We're building a full line of products for babies and the parents who love them, carriers, slings, and more on the way, each one custom, each one made with the same care we poured into our very first lounger. We choose eco-friendly materials, because the earth is our home too, and we only make what we'd be proud to use in our own home.
I want to give back as much as I can to the families who've welcomed us into their homes. And mostly, I want JollyBoo to become a beloved household name. These are big dreams, I know. But what this journey has taught me is that anything is possible when you have your customers and your team cheering you on.
